AMIA windows and doors are manufactured to comply with Australian Standard AS 3959 (Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas). The glass type and screen mesh required depend on your site’s assigned BAL (Bushfire Attack Level) rating, which must be provided at the time of order. BAL 12.5 — Windows: 4mm float glass + mesh screens · Doors: 4mm toughened

BAL FZ (Flame Zone) — Bushfire shutters required, supplied by others
Windows and doors must be completely protected by Bushfire Shutters. Bushfire shutters are supplied by others and are not included in the AMIA window or door supply. Please ensure your builder or shutter supplier is engaged prior to ordering.
Screens and BAL compliance — which mesh types are compliant
Not all screen types are BAL compliant. The following mesh types are not suitable for BAL-rated installations:
- Fibreglass mesh
- Midge mesh
- Pet mesh
For BAL compliance, specify Aluminium or Stainless-Steel mesh when ordering screens.
How to find your BAL rating
Your BAL rating is assigned by a qualified bushfire attack level assessment, typically provided as part of your council Development Application (DA) or building approval. If you are unsure of your BAL rating, check your planning permit, ask your builder, or contact your local council.
BAL rating is a required field on the AMIA Custom Products order form. Orders without a confirmed BAL rating cannot proceed to manufacture.
